Who We Are

The bicisport Calgary Cycling Club, is a registered ‘not for profit’ organization that was originally founded by a small group of cycling enthusiasts known as the Spokes Racing Team in 1988. In 1992, the name was changed to “bicisport Calgary Cycling Club”. The name comes from the Italian word for bicycle, bicicaletta, and loosely translates to mean "bikesport."

Over the years, our membership has grown to approximately 65 members. We initially began as a road racing club and evolved to become one of the top racing clubs in Alberta, strongly representing the disciplines of road, mountain biking and track racing. We have had a number of National Team and International-calibre athletes begin their cycling careers as members of bicisport, and we confidently expect there will be many more to follow.

bicisport is dedicated to promoting both a healthy lifestyle, and to supporting and promoting all levels of bicycle racing. We are particularly supportive of both Paralympic and Junior athletes, and at the same time are keen to help all of our members reach their full potential. We have been involved in organizing some of the top cycling events in Alberta, including hosting the 2009 Alberta Provincial Road Championships, and providing full technical support to the 1998 World Police - Fireman Games.

Our members enjoy affiliation with the Alberta Cycling Association (ABA), the Canadian Cycling Association (CCA), and the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI), and derive benefit through access to club equipment, financial and logistical race support, coaching, club-rides, insurance through our Provincial Sports Organization (ABA), team-mate introductions, training partners and exposure to a heck of a lot of fun. Our current membership ranges in age from 12 to 65 years.
